Day 62: The wheel
When I woke up from the vortex again, it was morning and I was in a forest. I saw a human leave one of the stick huts I saw nearby. This human looked a little less animal-like than the ones I saw yesterday.
The humans started waking up and coming out of their houses. I even saw them making fires to cook their food. I guess I'm making influences. :) After the humans had eaten their breakfast, they started leaving in groups, until only a few were left.
I approached a friendly-looking one who was fixing a hole in her hut. She told me that she and her friends in the village had noticed that there were a lot of boulders nearby, and decided to try building something out of them.
She explained that the rocks were very heavy and hard to transport. I nodded, thinking that the humans I knew would probably have rented trucks.
I was considering suggesting this method to her, but I thought she might be offended at the obviousness of it... they were probably doing that already. I was pondering when I saw one of the groups of villagers coming back through the trees.
They hadn't rented trucks. In fact, they weren't even using a wheel-barrow or cart! Those silly people were trying to carry a boulder on their shoulders!
As the other groups started coming back, I noticed that they were pushing rocks along the ground, but that didn't work much better than carrying them, because the forest floor was bumpy and there were a lot of trees.
I politely asked them why they weren't using trucks. They just looked quizzically at me.
These humans really weren't anything like the humans I was used to! I decided to start at the beginning and show them a wheel. I rolled around for a while, trying to act out the wheel, and show them its utility. They weren't impressed.
I took a fallen log and showed them how if I pushed the log, it would roll quite a ways. After they saw this, they were quite impressed. Before nightfall, we had created a cart of sorts! It wasn't quite sturdy enough to carry a boulder yet (the design needed a bit more tweaking) but it was perfect for carrying a stuffed puppy. :]
While some children were pulling me around at breakneck speeds, I felt the tug again. I managed to wave goodbye to them, before being sucked into the vortex.
